I remember the last time when I have spent 10 hours to install SharePoint 2013 Cummulative Update on the farm. It was the last time I did this experience.

So why too long? the mains reasons are the “running” of the following services:

  • SharePoint Timer Service
  • SharePoint Search Service

To avoid this, you must stop them, manually or via a script PowerShell.
